Pharmacognosy of Achyranthes aspera Linn: A Review

The aim of this review is to provide a report on pharmacognosy of Achyranthes aspera using for various biological activities. .Achyranthes aspera Linn, known as Nayurvi in Tamil is an indigenous herb a widely used as traditional Indian herb, belongs to the family of Amaranthaceae and its leaves, roots, flowers and seeds have also been used in traditional medicine. The medicinal plant has been reported to have antidiabetic, antifertility, antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, abortifacient, anticonciceptive, immunomodulatory, antiviral, nanoparticles synthesis and anticarcinogenic properties. It is now considered as a valuable source of unique natural products for development of medicines against various diseases and also for the development of industrial products. This review paper gives a bird’s eye view mainly on the traditional uses, ethnopharmacognostic and ethnopharmacological actions of the medicinal plant.
